Westminster Dog Show Best in Show Winner Trumpet the Bloodhound and his handler Heather Helmer visit the Empire State Building on June 23, 2022 in New York City.

For dog lovers, the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is a must see, and the 146th edition was no different.

Debbie and I look forward to this show every year, and seeing some of the photos and videos of the winners this year sure brings us a smile.

A couple of mind-blowing stats from this year’s competition. There were 211 breeds and over 3,500 dogs entered in this year’s competition. It’s the second-oldest sporting event continuously ongoing in the United States (behind the Kentucky Derby).

According to the Kennel Club, the most entries come from these categories: Golden Retrievers (70), Labrador Retrievers (49), Pugs (46), Rhodesian Ridgebacks (43), and French Bulldogs (41). Interestingly, there were 98 entries this year from the state of North Carolina.

This year’s Best in Show was Trumpet the Bloodhound. According to the Westminster Kennel Club, “Trumpet, a 4.5-year-old male, officially known as GCHB CH Flessner’s Toot My Own
Horn took top honors among the 442 dogs entered within the Hound Group.”

That win qualified him to compete for Best in Show with the winners you’ll see below.

  • Hound: Trumpet the Bloodhound
  • Toy: Hollywood the Maltese
  • Non-sporting: Winston the French Bulldog
  • Herding: River the German Shepherd
  • Sporting: Belle the English Setter
  • Working: Striker the Samoyed
  • Terrier: MM the Lakeland
