James Hetfield is Still Angry About Lemmy Not Being in the Rock Hall
James Hetfield, like most music fans, has issues with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His particular issues have to do with the late Lemmy Kilmister.
Papa Het discussed this recently on The Metallica Report where he mentioned that Lemmy not being in the Rock Hall “continues to piss me off.”
“The most rock and roll lifestyle-living person on this planet is not in the Rock & roll Hall of Fame, which is a travesty, a shame,” said Hetfield. “It’s kind of a disrespect to rock and roll, basically, so this [tattoo] is me paying homage to him.”
James Hetfield’s Lemmy Tattoo
Last month, Hetfield shared he got a new tattoo in tribute to Lemmy. The tattoo is of an Iron Cross, which Lemmy often wore in a variety of capacities. In the middle of the cross is a black ace symbol, which represents Motörhead classic song and album Ace of Spades.
Oh, and naturally, Papa Het got the tattoo on his middle finger, and the ink used on the tattoo contained some of Lemmy’s ashes.
Hetfield’s new tattoo was shared via Metallica’s social media. The caption reads, “With the steady hand of friend and tattoo artist @coreymillertattoo, this tattoo. A salute to my friend and inspiration Mr. Lemmy Kilmister. Without him, there would be NO Metallica.”
The caption concludes, “Black ink mixed with a pinch of his cremation ashes that were so graciously given to me. So now, he is still able to fly the bird at the world.”
Ozzy Also Backs Lemmy for the Rock Hall
Ozzy Osbourne also recently voiced his support for Lemmy to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Prince of Darkness told Rolling Stone that Lemmy and Motorhead should “definitely” be in the Rock Hall. Osbourne called late Motorhead frontman/friend Lemmy “the ultimate metal guy,” and added, “What I liked about Lemmy is he didn’t give a f-ck who you were. If you asked him a question, he’d tell you what he thought.”
Motorhead has been eligible for the Rock Hall since 2003. Unfortunately, they’ve only been nominated once in 2020.
