Cumberland County Tax Relief Applications Open for 2025
Cumberland County tax relief applications for three tax breaks available to property owners are now open. These programs could lower tax bills for many residents in 2025.
The first program reduces taxes for those who own agricultural, horticultural, forestry, and wildlife conservation properties. State law NCGS 105-277.2 now allows tax offices to base values on how owners use their property, not its potential market value. Property owners need to apply between Jan. 1-31. If you apply after the Jan. 31 deadline, you’ll face a 10% penalty.
Another break helps older and disabled homeowners. This reduction removes either $25,000 or half the home’s assessed value from tax calculations. To qualify, residents must be at least 65 or permanently disabled, with a total household income below $37,900 per year.
Veterans with disabilities can access a third option. It excludes the first $45,000 of their primary home’s assessed value. When these veterans die, their spouses keep the benefit if they don’t remarry. This option has no age or income limitations.
Seniors and vets have until June 1, 2025, to apply for these breaks.
