The Parade of Nations portion of the International Folk Festival set for Downtown Fayetteville this weekend, has been cancelled. But no worries on the rest of the festival. It's still going on!
"The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County has announced the Parade of Nations–originally scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23–is now canceled, due to the inclement weather forecast; however, the Arts Council is pursuing options to hold the parade at a later date," the Arts Council said in a release.
The parade had been scheduled for Saturday morning, but will now be held at a later date. The rest of the International Folk Festival event is a rain-or-shine event, and the Arts Council said those festivities will begin at noon on both Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24.
The Arts Council will continue to monitor the weather forecast and update the public as needed on its official Facebook page (@ArtsCouncilFay). Otherwise, attendees may visit wearethearts.com/iff2023 to learn more about the scheduled performances, event map, and more.
Cool Spring Downtown District had already canceled the 4th Friday Fiesta Latina event scheduled for 6-10 p.m. tonight.
"While 4th Friday and the Parade of Nations are canceled, the Arts Council has confirmed the International Folk Festival generally is a rain-or-shine event. As of their media alert on Friday morning, all other scheduled event festivities on Saturday and Sunday will continue as planned. Attendees may expect those festivities to begin at noon in downtown Fayetteville on both Sat., Sept. 23, and Sun., Sept. 24."

4 Drive-In Movie Theaters You Have to Visit in North Carolina
Summer nights are the perfect time to cruise down and catch a movie from your local North Carolina drive-in movie theater. Drive-in theaters invoke a feeling of nostalgia for summer days gone by, with popcorn and fireflies aplenty.
Once upon a time, they were plentiful and dotted the landscape in most rural American towns, however many have since closed their lots.
"There are currently only about 330 drive-in theaters that remain in operation in the United States compared to a peak of about 4,000 in the late 1950’s," the online resource DriveInMovie.com said. "There are many reasons for the decline of the number of drive-in theaters. But one thing is certain – we must support remaining drive-ins to prevent their closure to maintain this truly unique experience that is an American as homemade apple pie."
But don't despair! There are still some fully functioning drive-in theaters up and running North Carolina. Some of them are airing special Halloween features in the next month or so. And a couple even have the special Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie coming up in October.
That makes for a lot of fun opportunities as the weather cools down, and your nostalgia heats up. Enjoy these North Carolina drive-in movie theaters.
