VIDEO: James Hetfield Performing ‘Baby Hold On’ at Eddie Money Tribute Show
James Hetfield took part in an Eddie Money tribute concert back in February. Back then, fan-shot footage of the performance surfaced, but AXS TV also was on hand to film the show, and they released the Hetfield performance to mark the one year anniversary of Money’s passing.
Embedded below, Hetfield put his own acoustic take on the Money classic “Baby Hold On.” At the time, it was Hetfield’s first live public performance since his stint in rehab back in late 2019 for issues with alcohol abuse.
In fan-shot footage, Hetfield prefaced his performance by telling the story of how he and Money met at an Oakland Raiders game where Money was singing the National Anthem.
“He kinda blew me off, and I thought, ‘Who is this pompous ass?’ So it was like two big dogs going in a circle around each other, which was kinda funny,” said Hetfield. “I saw through it, I saw through that ego, and he saw through mine, and we got to be friends, because I think our egos matched the size of our insecurities.”
Money died of complications from stage 4 esophageal cancer on September 13, 2019. He was 70.
