School Year Gets off to Rough Start, as CCS Reports NCEdCloud Issues
Cumberland County Schools has reported that the NCEdCloud system used to power its online learning platform, has had technical issues this morning, the first day of school in the area. Parents across the region have been reporting issues with logging in to the new system, as many schools around the state have started their years remotely.
NCEdCloud is used to run the PowerSchool and Canvas across North Carolina. Canvas is the primary distance-learning tool that many systems state-wide are using for their remote schooling. Cumberland County Schools did says that Google Meet sessions can still be accessed for virtual learning.
As parents and students tried to log in to the system this morning, many reported problems getting in to the platform.

It was a less-than-stellar start to what Cumberland County Schools had announced as “Operation Smooth Start” for an unusual school year, given the restrictions in place to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Fortunately, they did build in some time to adjust to the new systems and procedures.
“Operation Smooth Start is all about helping everyone ease into the new school year. We will collaboratively work through any issues that may arise. During the first 10 days of school, we will set the stage for student success. Live student-teacher interactions will occur beginning on the first day of school, but no high-stakes assignments will be made before August 31. We want to ensure that each student is able to pick up the necessary materials, understand expectations and address any questions. This is a new normal, but we will learn and grow together. This is going to be a great school year!”
