Stone Sour Begin 2020 Track Campaign, Release Demo of ‘Get Inside’
Stone Sour kicked off 2020 and their new weekly track release campaign by going back to the beginning of their catalog.
Embedded below is the demo version of “Get Inside,” the first track off their 2002 self-titled debut album. Guitarist Josh Rand shared in the clip’s description on YouTube, “January 1, 2000. The first day of the new millennium. It was a homecoming show for Slipknot, and as Corey [Taylor] & myself sat at his grandma Thelma’s house waiting to leave for the show that night, we played each other music that we had separately been working on. These were songs that he had written outside of Slipknot, and songs that I had recorded at home on a 4 track. After we listened to all of the tracks, we decided that we needed to record these songs at SR Studios in Des Moines during his time off from touring. These sessions took place over the next year and became the Project X/SuperEgo demo. Most of the songs from those sessions ended up on the first Stone Sour album. The goal was not to have any musical boundaries; to play whatever we wanted regardless of what people might think. Here is the first version of ‘Get Inside,’ the song that started it all.”
Rand recently told Billboard that Stone Sour will be releasing one previously unreleased track or demo every week in 2020. The various tracks range from the present to back when the band first formed in 1992.
“I’m pretty excited about that,” Rand said. “I think it’s going to be really cool, and it’ll give an insight into how we work as a band. It’s an interesting thing to hear stuff in its raw form and not polished like you hear in a finished record. There’s a rawness to it that’s cool.”
