Ronnie Wood Recalls Bringing Bunsen Burner to Parties to Freebase Cocaine
There are party tricks and then there’s this story about Ronnie Wood involving a bunsen burner.
In the new documentary, Somebody Up There Likes Me, Wood covers many topics from his remarkable life and career including his struggles with addiction and how he would take a bunsen burner to parties to freebase cocaine.
As transcribed by The Daily Mail, Wood said, “I would take it to parties and go, ‘Everybody try this’, get [a] great big bunsen burner out, the pipes, the works, freebase and everything. And people would be going, ‘You’re f-cking crazy’ but I would love it.”
Wood added, “It’s incredibly powerful, it ruled everything, getting high with that pipe was frightening. [You] do anything for it and I can understand why people went out and killed for it. I enjoyed the sh-t out of it. Took it with me wherever I went. I thought it was the best thing going.”
Wood drove home the point of the addictive nature of freebasing by then admitting it took him “about three years to get off it.”
Somebody Up There Likes Me received its world premiere recently at the London Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a commercial release is planned for 2020.
