Ric Ocasek: Read Statements Released From Family, Cause of Death Revealed
Ric Ocasek‘s family have released two new statements following The Cars singer’s unexpected death yesterday (September 15.)
The first statement is “from the Ocasek Family” and appears to have been penned by Paulina Porizkova, Ocasek’s wife of 28 year whom he separated from in 2018. It reads as follows:
“Ric was at home recuperating very well after surgery. Our two sons, Jonathan and Oliver, and I were making sure he was comfortable, ordering food and watching TV together. I found him still asleep when bringing him his Sunday morning coffee. I touched his cheek to rouse him. It was then I realized that during the night he had peacefully passed on. We appreciate the great outpouring of love. We, his family and friends, are completely and utterly devastated by his untimely and unexpected death and would appreciate the privacy to mourn in private.”
The other statement comes from Ocasek’s sons who shared a drawing from their father that featured the words, “Never forget that look. Keep on laughin’. It is what it is.” Their statement reads:
“Our dad was a prolific doodler. His passing was sudden, unexpected and beyond heartbreaking. Yesterday, we found this last doodle on his armchair. He couldn’t have known what it would end up meaning to us. We love him so much.”
As for Ocasek’s cause of death, that was confirmed today (September 16) by New York City’s Medical Examiners Office. Per Page Six, Ocasek died from natural causes related to heart disease. Details regarding the surgery Ocasek was recovering from and whether or not it was heart-related has not been confirmed.
