Netflix Acquires Global Streaming Rights to ‘Seinfeld’
Netflix landed a major title in the ever-growing streaming world by securing the global streaming rights to Seinfeld.
Starting in 2021, all 180 episodes of the iconic sitcom will be available through the streaming giant. Currently, Seinfeld is available for streaming on Hulu. According to The Los Angeles Times, Hulu was paying $150 million annually on a five-year deal for the series’ streaming rights in the United States, which will expire in 2021.

In a statement, Netflix’s Cheif Content Office Ted Sarandos said, “‘Seinfeld’ is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against. It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time.”
The announcement of Netflix landing Seinfeld comes after the streaming giant lost the streaming rights for two other major sitcoms, Friends and The Office. Beginning in spring 2020, Friends will be available on the new WarnerMedia streaming service, HBO Max. The Office, meanwhile, will head to the new NBCUniversal streaming service in 2021.
