‘Almost Famous’ Musical Opening in September
It’s all happening…on stage, that is.
After first announcing in September 2018 he was working on the project, Cameron Crowe has announced the musical adaptation of his 2000 film Almost Famous will premiere at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater. Per Rolling Stone, the musical will open on September 27.
In a statement, Crowe said, “Almost Famous is such a personal thing for me. It’s always held a special place in my heart, not just because it’s about music and journalism and my family, but because it’s also about a lot of the indelible characters I was lucky enough to meet along the way. Some are still with us, many are gone, but the movie lives on as a kind of tribute to the power of the right song on the right day… it can change your life’s course in a single note.”
Crowe has been working on the adaptation for the past couple of years with Tom Kitt, best known for his work on the musical adaptation of the Green Day album American Idiot. Kitt composed the production’s music, with he and Crowe contributing lyrics.
