‘Star Wars’ Rumors: Legacy Characters, Directors, And More
After criticisms of ‘The Last Jedi,’ J.J. Abrams will return to direct the final installment of this trilogy of ‘Star Wars.’
Originally Colin Trevorrow was going to be the director for this episode, but after he left Lucasfilm in 2017, J.J. Abrams was brought back to “finish… what he started.” (Sorry, that was just too good.)
According to a report from Yahoo, there may be a gap of time not explained, based on Finn’s hair length. John Boyega shared in an interview “The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why.” Considering what they have to work around (AKA Carrie Fisher‘s unexpected death), it may have a call back to the time frame to let you know that Leia is now gone.
A New York Daily News insider claims that Yoda might be returning for the final episode, force ghost style. “The success of the scenes featuring Yoda in ‘The Last Jedi’ were huge,” says the insider. “Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi… The scenes are due to be put together later this year.” Whether fact or fiction, we cannot say at this time.
Did you know? The exact puppet mold of Yoda used for Empire Strikes Back in 1980 was found and reused for The Last Jedi pic.twitter.com/jRM5lkkixd

Another legacy character rumored to return? Billy Dee Williams, AKA Lando Calrissian. Comicbook.com shared “We were asked by our original source to verify this with another independent source before we ran with it. We did that, confirming that this is indeed correct (and before anyone asks, we’re not going to name our sources because that’s not how this works). Filming on Episode IX starts next month, so expect to see official confirmation of this exciting casting very soon.” It was also noted that a report came that Williams had changed his eating and exercise habits, which probably means he could reprise the role. Not to mention, even though ‘Solo’ didn’t do as well at the box office as Lucasfilm and Disney had hoped, Donald Glover put some life back into the role, so now we may get to see Williams return.

And finally, the most reaching of the rumors: Ewan McGregor showing up as Obi-Wan Kenobi (force ghost, obviously). The Sun shared that their sources say Ewan McGregor has been filming scenes for the movie, returning after his last role as Obi-Wan from 2005’s ‘Revenge of the Sith’ prequel. This most likely stems from you hearing Obi-Wan’s voice in the mesh of things that Rey (Daisy Ridley) hears when she touches Luke’s lightsaber for the first time.
But to debunk one possibility, the end of ‘Solo’ had a pivotal character from a certain someone that appeared in the prequels. (Going to still give you vague references here as people may have avoided seeing ‘Solo.’) CNET feels that he will appear in some form of a ‘Star Wars’ movie, but probably not Episode IX.
Until then, we will see what starts to surface as the film starts to get rolling, as we’re still in the pre-production phase according to reports.
