Cumberland County Public Library will host a Star Party on Friday, April 24, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Hope Mills Community Library, located at 3411 Golfview Road in Hope Mills. The North Carolina Science Festival picked this spot to receive a Statewide Star Party kit.

Kids, parents, and tweens can join in. The afternoon brings astronomy, hands-on science, and creative projects.

Things kick off inside with a moon-themed story time built for sensory seekers. Then everyone heads outside for activities inspired by past statewide Star Parties, plus some fresh ideas this year.

Attendees can make moon craters, launch stomp rockets, and dig into space-themed sensory play bins. There's also a scavenger hunt, a DIY constellation viewing box to build, and sky viewing through a telescope.

This year's version has grown to include sensory-friendly options, making it easier for more people to participate. Several pairs of over-ear headphones will be on hand to borrow, helping cut down overstimulation for those who need it.

The Star Party is one of several programs CCPL will host throughout April as part of the festival. A full list of what's happening is available by visiting the library's website.
