Getty ImagesCSX plans to shut down railroad crossings throughout western Robeson County between Feb. 17 and Feb. 23. Crews will install fresh railroad ties and complete track repairs. Different crossings will close anywhere from two days to five days, based on what kind of work each spot requires.
Two separate sections make up this project. The first begins at a private crossing near Business 74, then pushes east toward Pembroke before wrapping up just past the town limits. A second stretch connects Hamlet to Laurinburg, where construction crews will operate at the same time.
Not every crossing stays blocked throughout the week. For crossings that provide the sole access point, CSX committed to reopening those routes within 24 hours whenever possible.
These timeframes might shift. Weather, equipment troubles, or unexpected conditions could force schedule changes once crews break ground.
Twenty-two crossings across Maxton and Pembroke will feel the impact. Airport Road west of Maxton closes around Feb. 17. Malloy Street, Patterson Street, First Street, Fifth Street, and Rockingham Road in Maxton get blocked around Feb. 18.
Alma Road east of Maxton shuts down around Feb. 19. Traditional Drive east of Maxton closes around Feb. 20.
Deep Branch Road and Red Banks Road west of Pembroke will be inaccessible around Feb. 21. Oxendine Road, N.C. Highway 710, Old Main Road, Redmond Road, and University Road close around Feb. 22.
Feb. 23 brings the heaviest disruptions to Pembroke. Two pedestrian crossings on Faculty Row at UNC Pembroke, Odom Street, Vance Street, Union Chapel Road, and Jones Street all face closures. Private crossings off East Railroad Street will also be shut down that day.
