The Pembroke location at 100 South Union Chapel Road is expanding one day per week to five days per week. Hours run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a break from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. Spruce Pine's office at 12027 N.C. Highway 226 now operates five days per week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Newland location at 301 Cranberry St. also expanded to five days per week with hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Yanceyville's office at 958 Fire Tower Road now opens Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
These changes stem from a staffing plan the state agency announced in November 2025, which uses data analysis of wait times and customer needs to determine where to add staff and hours.
"We're committed to making driver license services more accessible and convenient for everyone, especially in rural communities where travel distances can be a barrier," said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine, in the NCDOT release.
The plan includes staffing increases at 56 offices statewide and guarantees daily staffing at all service terminals in 19 high-demand locations across North Carolina.
NCDMV encourages customers to check office locations and hours at NCDMV.gov. The agency suggests using online services for transactions such as license renewals, duplicates, and address changes to avoid in-person visits when possible.
