Road Closure Date And Location
Earlier this week the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) announced that the portion of Strickland Bridge Road between Stoney Point Road and Century Circle will be permanently closed on September 4. Once this portion of roadway is closed, residents living on Weathergreen and Leland Drives will have to take a right onto Strickland Bridge Road.
Luckily this shouldn't affect travel times too greatly. According to DriveNC.gov, drivers will still be able to use adjacent streets like Century Circle and Stoney Point as slight detours to get around the construction.
Fayetteville Outer Loop Construction
The stretch of Strickland Bridge Road is being removed to make way for Interstate 295, otherwise known as the Fayetteville Outer Loop. The outer loop has been in the works since the early 2000s, with different segments of the interstate corridor being completed every few years.
Luckily, the closure of Strickland Bridge Road signals the homestretch for the massive project. Construction of the final segment of the interstate is expected to be finished by spring of 2026, at which point the entire 39-mile Outer Loop corridor will be completely open to the public.
Completion of this corridor will create a connection for I-95 in northern Cumberland County and I-95 in Robeson County just below the Cumberland County line.
