No Membership Needed: You Can Order Costco Groceries From Uber Eats
A convenient partnership is coming your way. Costco has partnered with Uber Eats. This team-up will allow any Uber user to shop from Costco through the app. The best part is that no membership is required. This means you can skip the parking lot, the shopping carts, long check-out waits, and playing “trunk Tetris” with your groceries. You may miss out on free samples but at least you don’t have to leave your house.
Before the partnership, the wholesale store chain shipped and delivered many of its items to members who ordered online. But they don’t offer same-day delivery. Now, non-members can take advantage of Costco with Uber Eats.
More on the Costco and Uber Eats partnership
Axios reported that Costco members who input their membership ID into Uber Eats will be eligible for additional discounts and a 20% discount on an annual Uber One membership. Uber One members get 10% off all eligible Uber orders, plus a $0 delivery fee for participating restaurants and stores. The company did note that prices and delivery fees vary by location.
“Costco on Uber Eats will be a ‘Costco on-demand’ delivery service, available from select U.S. locations,” as reported by Axios.
If customers are already using Instacart, the two delivery platforms are teaming up for food delivery of all types, with Instacart managing the grocery logistics and Uber Eats handling restaurant takeout.
Food & Wine reported that Instacart users will be introduced to a “restaurants” tab, powered by Uber Eats, offering local and national restaurant delivery. “In addition to $0 delivery fees on grocery orders, Instacart+ members will also get free delivery on all restaurant orders over $35,” they said
More rollouts
Recently, Uber rolled out a new menu of ride options Wednesday, from an “Uber Shuttle” to the airport or a concert to “Uber Caregiver,” which lets you book rides that may be covered by health insurance for elderly people.
Uber Shuttle lets you reserve up to five seats to or from an airport, concert, or sporting event, up to seven days in advance. The company says it’ll be “a fraction of the price of an UberX” and costs won’t rise with surge pricing. UberX Share lets you “schedule a shared ride in advance to save 25%, on average, compared to UberX,” the company says.
Uber Caregiver will allow caregivers to book rides for an elderly parent (or other loved one) to doctor appointments, grocery stores, etc. The feature, rolling out this summer, is meant to be covered by Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
