Rain, Rain, Stay Away this Week
Weather is on everyone’s minds here this week as practice gets underway today for the 87th Masters Tournament.
The National Weather Service is predicting umbrellas will be needed a lot this week. There’s 50% chance of rain today. Not a big chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday, but once the tournament begins on Thursday, that’s a different story.
The National Weather Service forecast is calling for a 40% chance of afternoon showers for the first day of the tournament Thursday; an 80% chance on Friday; 85% chance Saturday; then another 75% chance for the final round on Sunday.
“Weather Warning” signs may appear on scoreboard and message boards on the course, if bad weather is predicted. If play is suspended, an airhorn will sound and players and patrons must leave the course. Patrons can take umbrellas on the course and they are also available, along with ponchos, in the merchandise shop. If you bring your own umbrella, keep in mind that patrons are not allowed to carry anything displaying large corporate logos, and that also includes umbrellas.
Last year, Tuesday’s practice round wound up getting rained out, so ticket holders for that day were given a chance to buy tickets for Tuesday’s round this year.
