Tiny Home Program To Help Homeless Veterans in Fayetteville
In an effort to help homeless veterans in Fayetteville and the surrounding area, Off-Road Veteran Outreach has teamed up with the ServiceSource NC-Warrior Bridge program, to start a tiny home program.
The Big Tiny Project is designed to provide transition housing for homeless or at-risk veterans. Off-Road Veteran Outreach acquired three tiny homes earlier this year, and immediately began work on the project to help homeless veterans in and around Fayetteville and Fort Bragg.
That required bringing together a lot of help for the project, and lots of places have stepped up, including Lowe’s Home Improvement, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers Foundation, Window World of Fayetteville, the All-Veteran Group, the U.S. Veterans Corps, ServiceSource, Cumberland County Schools and more.
“Big Tiny Project provides up to 90 days of transitional housing, where they will also have easy access to VA resources, job upskilling, financial skills and a sense of community to prepare them to transition back into a beneficial role in society,” Off-Road Outreach said in a release. “The BTP currently benefits veterans in North Carolina primarily in the Fort Bragg area with plans to scale to a national program.”
The first three homes are undergoing gutting and repairs now, before they’ll be fixed up, and placed in permanent locations by next February. Officials from ServiceSource said Lowe’s stepped up in a big way by donating all of the supplies, and a number of other organizations have been providing additional labor and goods to make the project happen.
“Off-Road Outreach in partnership with our ServiceSource NC-Warrior Bridge Program for disabled Veterans held its kick off last week for the “Big Tiny Project,” Service Source said in a Facebook post. “Thank you to all the volunteers and support from Lowe’s Home improvement team, Legacy Flooring, US Veterans Corps, All Veteran Group, Fayetteville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Window World, Fizzy Friendz, and Wells Fargo. Lowe’s Give Back Team not only provided their time, but over $20,000 in materials needed to renovate three tiny homes that were donated to Off-Road Outreach to provide temporary housing for homeless Veterans with disabilities participating in the Wellness Recovery Assistance Program of Warrior Bridge NC.”
