Female Youth Softball Umpire Punched After Game in Mississippi
A woman in Mississippi is facing misdemeanor charges, after she allegedly punched a woman who had just served as a youth softball umpire.
Police in Laurel, Mississippi said that Kiara Thomas of Hattiesburg allegedly punched Kristi Moore, after she had been removed from the fields Saturday night for causing disruptions.
Moore posted on Facebook after the incident, “I got punched coming off a field last night. There is no excuse for this.”
Thomas had allegedly been removed from the facility, and was angry with the umpire. She left, but came back and waiting for Moore in the parking lot, where she allegedly punched the youth softball umpire.
Thomas was arrested not long after the incident, when police pulled her over after the left the sports complex. Witnesses saw the incident, and took her plate and car information and reported it to police.
Thomas was wearing a “Mother of the Year” shirt in her police booking photo. And according to the Leader Call, had a clearly unrepentant response on Facebook as well:
“I do not play that disrespectful s – – t and I will not let you make it once you cross that line. And nobody can ever make an example of me. A misdemeanor that Im gone beat … f- – k yall thought.”
Moore’s Facebook post showed a clearly blackened eye, and called on people to remember why it is so difficult to find umpires now.
“The next time you go to a tournament and you only have one umpire on the field…this is why. When you have brand new umpires on the field that may not know everything they should know yet…..this is why. When you don’t feel you have the quality of umpires you should….this is why. When the day comes that your kid can’t play a ballgame because there are no longer officials to call it….THIS.IS.WHY.”
