Jethro Tull Release ‘Shoshana Sleeping,’ Announce ‘The Zealot Gene’ LP
It’s been nearly 20 years since Jethro Tull have served up a new studio album – but that that will change soon, as the band has announced a new album, The Zealot Gene, out Jan. 28, 2022, via Inside Out Music.
In addition to announcing the new album, Jethro Tull have released the first single off the album, “Shoshana Sleeping,” which you can check out below.
The new album is about the “mythos and themes of Biblical storytelling,” according to the press release.
“While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale story-telling of the Holy Book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text,” Tull bandleader Ian Anderson said. “The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness.”
Jethro Tull started work on The Zealot Gene back in 2017, but the coronavirus pandemic paused the album’s release and subsequent tour dates that they had lined up for 2020.
“It was so sudden,” Anderson stated. “Amidst the concerns and warnings of the scientific community and a few more enlightened politicians, we all retreated in disbelief to our homes to wait out the storm.”
The Zealot Gene will arrive on both CD and vinyl in a variety of formats and packages. To pre-order the album, go here.
The new record marks the band’s follow-up to 2003’s The Jethro Tull Christmas Album.
