Fayetteville-Cumberland Pools, Splash Pads Staying Closed This Summer
A little bad news for the kids around Fayetteville and Cumberland County, as splash pads and swimming pools will be closed for the summer.
Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation sent out the notice Friday morning saying the splash pads and pools “will be closed for the duration of Summer 2020.” Additionally, no summer camps will be open this season, as officials seek to continue to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the region.
“FCPR leaders have remained in contact with peer cities and neighboring agencies statewide to secure “best practices” in the field of parks and recreation,” the FCPR release said. “The ripple effects that can result from just one case of COVID-19 in a camp or aquatic setting where multiple people are present are far reaching. It is also clear that the effects of COVID-19 are continually changing, along with health and operational guidelines.”
FCPR said that anybody who had registered for camps already will be notified and refunds will be processed immediately.
“FCPR does reserve the right to revisit those decisions. Any changes would come after consensus by FCPR, the City of Fayetteville Emergency Management team and Cumberland County Health Department, and future Executive Orders issued by the Governor.”
