IRS May Delay Tax Filings Due To Coronavirus
Some (kind of) good news is coming out of all the worry over the coronavirus: The IRS may delay the tax filing deadline. Per the New York Post, “The Treasury Department may delay the April 15 filing deadline to give taxpayers a break as they grapple with the virus that has sickened more than 1,000 people in the US.” The decision has not been finalized as officials are trying to determine how far to push the deadline, and they are trying to who would be eligible for extra filing time.
The New York Post also explains that the tax extension reports began after talks between the White House and Congress about the “fiscal stimulus plan to blunt the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.” President Trump has also hinted at tax cuts and assistance for the struggling airline and cruise ship industries.
Neither the Treasury Department or the IRS has confirmed this report.
