Dave Grohl Shares Mini-Doc on Crowd Surfing Fan in Wheelchair He Once Invited On Stage
Sometimes, YouTube’s algorithm has a funny way of surprising you with the right video at the right time, and that’s certainly something Dave Grohl can attest.
Back in August, the Foo Fighters were closing out the Sziget Festival in Hungary when Grohl saw a fan in a wheelchair crowd surfing. Just before closing out the set with “Everlong,” Grohl points out the fan and says, “He’s the f-cking star of the show right there. That’s the f-cking star of the show. My man! My man! I have a question; do you wanna come up and watch the show from up here?” The crowd then erupted and then carefully helped the fan make his way to the stage.
What Grohl didn’t know at the time was that fan, Gal Mizrachi, had been filmed by the Sziget Festival for a mini-documentary chronicling how he travels all around Europe in the summer attending music festivals. The festival camera crew stopped following Mizrachi around the final day, which happened to be his birthday, but a different crew captured the magical crowd surfing moment.
The documentary, Wheels of Madness, was uploaded to the festival’s YouTube on November 21, and via the Foos’ Facebook page, Grohl shared it along with the following touching caption: “Woke up this morning to find this….a pure message of how love, hope, music, and people can come together to make the world a better place. Gal, as I wipe the tears from my face, I wish you a belated Happy Birthday (I had no idea!) and hope that our paths cross again. You have inspired me more than you’ll ever know….this was the greatest surprise.”
The documentary can be viewed below. (Some NSFW language in the video ahead.) If this doesn’t warm your heart, I’m not sure what else will.
