Metallica Might Just Be the Best Touring Band Ever. Here’s Why.
Metallica live is undoubtedly one of the best concert experiences ever, and a recent piece from Pollstar argues that the iconic metal band might just be the best touring band ever.
Author Ryan Borba offers up a number of very interesting statistics for this claim, including how the band has sold a staggering 22.1 million concert tickets since 1982, which has grossed an incredible $1.4 billion in the process. (The only bands to top Metallica in the sheer numbers game was U2 and The Rolling Stones.)
The other arguments that were posed for dubbing Metallica the best touring band ever were these: The band has never had any sort of gimmick tour, like a reunion or a farewell, and their merchandise sales figures are insane. How insane? $125 million in North American alone since the release of the landmark “Black Album.”
