Slash on New Guns N’ Roses Album, Reaction to Success of GN’R Tour
There’s been a lot of buzz regarding a new Guns N’ Roses album, and Slash has recently opened up on a timeline of when the band will begin work on that LP.
The guitarist recently appeared on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown and said the following on recording the new GN’R album:
“When we finish the tour [GN’R’s select festival dates] in the fall, then we will commence on working on what will be the next Guns record…The thing is we haven’t really done anything yet, and I don’t want to say anything like, ‘Oh, yeah…’ You know how people used to promote sh-t and lie through their teeth? I just wanted to be honest about it, and so there really was no telling what we were going to do at that point, but at this point, I do know we’re going to do this run, and we’ve already started working on stuff. So, there you go.”
The latest buzz from the rumor mill has already placed Slash at the home of Axl Rose discussing and working on new material, and Slash responded with, “It’s funny, because there was some rumor that I was over there before I had even been there. So I was like, ‘Jesus Christ!’ And that’s just a pain in the ass and annoying, but I am excited about what we’ve got going on and everything. It’s gonna be cool. It’s gonna be awesome.”
When asked about the success of the “Not in This Lifetime” tour, Slash expressed “shock” and how this tour compared to past GN’R tours:
“I didn’t know really what to expect. I think when we first got back together, it was more about us, and then there was a huge groundswell. It was pretty f-cking amazing. It was a little bit of a shock. It’s one thing to look at it on paper and go, ‘A lot of people went to the concert.’ It’s another thing to feel that kind of support and passion from people in a group setting that size. It’s a tangible feeling. People were so into it. It’s different than like back in the day when Guns was playing stadiums and everyone showed up. It was a completely different vibe. At that time, it was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to go to Guns show, and 60,000 people decided to go and listen to a couple of songs and so on.’ But this particular tour starting in 2016 on was people coming for a bigger reason than that, and that was something you could definitely feel.”
