The Who ‘Moving On! Tour’: Opening Night Setlist, Fan Video
The Who kicked off their Moving On! Tour last night (May 7) in Grand Rapids, Mich., and it marked the first time the band has gone out on tour with an orchestra.
While Billboard noted there were some sound mix issues during opening night and some areas for improvement for songs that aren’t normally played in an orchestral arrangement, the show, overall, was a success.
The idea to tour with an orchestra came from Roger Daltrey and his 2018 tour where he performed Tommy in its entirety along with an orchestra. Billboard reported Pete Townshend said around the middle of the show, “I just think this is a sh-t idea Roger had,” with a very dry tone to make you question whether or not he was joking.
Regardless, both surviving Who members addressed the crowd after taking their bows with Townshend saying, “Been a bit of an experiment. Hope you enjoyed it. There’s more to come.” Daltrey added, “It’s great to see old faces and some new ones. Just lucky to be around at this age, I’ll tell you.”
