Could an English Town Soon Be Named After Bowie?
Since David Bowie‘s passing, there have been a number of statues and other tributes established in his honor, but one fan is taking things a step further.
Per BBC, David Stopps is trying to petition to have the English town of Aylesbury to be changed to “Aylesbowie.” The small town is notable in Bowie history: It’s Market Square is name-checked in the song “Five Year” off of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and a now-shuttered music venue in the town is where Bowie debuted the Ziggy Stardust persona.
On top of that, Stopps successfully lobbied to have a statue of Bowie erected in Market Square, and the statue will be unveiled on March 25.
While we doubt the town will actually change its name, you can’t blame Stopps for trying.
