The Google Arts & Culture App Has Some People On Edge
By now, you’ve all seen side by side photos of your friends on social media comparing them to famous portraits from around the world — But some people are concerned with the technology being used.
That’s because the popular app uses facial recognition, and naturally, uploading a photo of your face into an app to be scanned has some people on edge.
As Alyssa Milano pointed out, people should question what Google is doing with the photo you have given them.
I mean, this google app that matches your face to a piece of fine art. Anyone suspicious of just surrendering your facial recognition to google or are we confident they already have that at this point?

The Washington Post reached out to Google for comment and a spokesman for the company assured users that they were not using these photos for anything more than matching faces to the artwork.
This is also clearly noted in the app itself. Google let’s users know that they will only store the photo for the duration of the time it takes to search for the portrait.
