WCTI reports that the warning will be in effect for all 12 miles of the beach and will be in place until further notice.
This warning comes after two men died over the weekend trying to rescue other swimmers caught in the rip current and a teenager dying after being caught in a rip current the weekend before.
The Emerald Isle Police Department has also said that sixteen-year-old Tyler Worsley died this morning. He was rescued from Emerald Isle waters on June 10.
Seventeen-year-old Elijah Hinnant was swimming with Worsley and went missing on June 10. He was found dead in the water last week.
Emerald Isle Police and lifeguard staff will work with the National Weather Service to monitor the water conditions and see when the water will be safe again.
